Truthful war movies are inherently anti-war.
I just saw an amazing movie called "When Trumpets Fade" HIGHLY recommended. It is a case when fiction can get to the heart of what it must have felt like to be in a war. A War where people were getting blown up ever day and the leaders just kept sending them into the meat grinder.
It's a World War II epic that takes place in 1944 during the America push into Germany right before the Battle of the Bulge.
Not only was it an very interesting movie, but I've read some things from soldiers who were actually there who said that this movie, more than any other recent film, captured the madness of war (especially one is which the leaders didn't understand the situation and kept doing the same thing over and over again). And this was our "good" war! It will be interesting to see what the movies might tell us about what really went on in this current war.

I've been wondering that too, Spocko. What will the future novel writers who are fighting Bush's War on Terra write. The truth will come out, and it won't be pretty.

Ellroon, thank for commenting! I would like to hear your take on "When Trumpets Fade". I realize that some of my opinions on war are based on true accounts from people who have been there and war movies that are gruesome. One of my english professors was a vet and he read some short stories to us about his experiences. Chilling. Those stuck to me in a way few others did.
When you watch video of soldiers who have had their legs blown off they are saying things like, "I just want to get back to my unit." But how much of that talk is ego and the desire not to look "weak" on camera? What do they say when the cameras aren't rolling? What do they say to their younger brother or sister who wants to enlist? Do they say, "Go for it." or "War sucks, I gave my right arm and right leg to this war and it ain't worth it."? Do we see anyone who is psychologically messed up talk about the war? Is their opinon valid? Do we need to do a poll of soldiers who are discharged, retired or aren't in combat? (since we know that soldiers who are under military command aren't free to speak.) I like to read Operation Truth and Soliders for the Truth to see what some of them say. It is always interesting to read first hand accounts.
