Attention Spocko's Brain loyal readers (all 12 of you)

If any of you would like a gmail account I have plenty to give away. I've used mine for a while and it's pretty good. I don't find the ads any more intrusive than any other free email site with banners and forced interstatials. I would be happy to send you an invitation if you are interested. Just drop me and email, tell me which of my topics/posts are your favorite (fishing for praise!) and I'll send you an invite. My email is spockosbrain a t sign gmail.c()m (sorry about the intentional mispelling. If you are human or a sentient being I'm sure you can figure it out. I'm trying to avoid email harvestors and haX0rs.)

Number one hit on Google Image Search for "sentient being"

Ads? Do those come after you've been using it a while, or are Mozilla users immune?

I don't know if Mozilla users are immune, I think they see the same thing as IE users. It really is a function of what you are writing about.

For example if we are talking about DVD burners and which ones to buy the computer looks at the key words in the the email and say, "Hey these guys are talking about DVD burners. I'll just pop a text ad on the screen to the left of the email telling them that there is a rebate on Pioneer DVD burners"

The theory is that the people would notice the ads since they were just talking about it in their emails.

Some people consider that intrusive and distracting. If that's you, they don't sign up. For me I've had free email from 4 or 5 different companies and they show me a bunch of ads at the top of the screen at the side at the bottom and before I can get to my email. I find them annoying and at the same time I can mentally rule them out.

For example the email you sent me had no ads on the left. They might in the future if someone buys the word immune. In email that Ntodd sent me he did a poem about gansters in which he talked about Vulcan's on the right were three ads for the Kawasaki Vulcan

I totally ignored that because we were talking about Spock the Vulcan. I didn't even remember that there were ads there.

There is no free lunch in the Universe as my Physics professor used to say. One way or another there is a price to pay for "free" email. I resisted for a long time, but I figured I already had several free accounts and was getting ads with them. This one had a lot more space and I actually like the thread email comments feature too. (which I didn't think I would like, but do)

Oh, are you talking about the "sponsored links" on the right side of the screen? I've yet to see anything else that even looked like an ad on Gmail, but then again, I've been using it less than a month.
