Kill! KILL! KILL! Pat Robertson Vs. the 6th Commandment

Dear WB20:

You carry the 700 club. On the August 22 broadcast of The 700 Club Pat Robertson suggested that America assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

I think that these comments should be condemned in the most serious fashion. He is inciting violence, to say nothing of the inappropriateness of a Christian program talking about KILLING someone else.

I think you need to run one of those disclaimers before the show saying that the views contained on this program do not reflect the views of WB20 or its affiliates. Maybe you should also run a warning that the show might contain some violent content and parental caution should be advised.

I do not understand why the host of a Christian program would suggest KILLING someone in cold blood. What's next, Robertson having sex with a guest on the air? Maybe that would be outrageous enough to get the show off the air.

I want to hear him Robertson recant his comment. I doubt he will, so I'd like your station to make a statement that you do not condone these comments.

Here is a link to his comments:
Pat Robertson, the capital crime of Hugo Chavez
Sincerely,

Mr. Spocko

Hiya Spocko!
I think your idea of a disclaimer is an excellent one. There should probably be one on news programs, too, they're filled with sex, violence, lying, cheating and stealing...and that's just the sports segment.
It seems to me a shame that the mental discipline of "considering the source" is not one being either exercised or encouraged. TV would much rather we absorbed what came out of it quietly and without a fuss.
I'm neither shocked nor dismayed by Pat's verbal diarrhea, it's what I expect from him. What does shock and dismay is the sheer numbers of his viewers sitting at home nodding their heads when he said it.

Ok, just imagine the whining, frothing, and grinding of teeth if a democrat had ventured to say such a thing.
Republicans can make up stuff on the fly and then be able to deny it if necessary, the Democrats need to just stfu, apparently. Truth and facts be damned.

Hi Coho, hi Ellroon.

Today Pat apologized. AFTER he lied about what he said he was busted.

ellroon- when the democrats even consider stating what they think the facts are- let alone the truth, people might actually think about what they have to say. Here's his apology: ""Is it right to call for assassination? No, and I apologize for that statement," Mr. Robertson said in a statement. "I spoke in frustration that we should accommodate the man who thinks the U.S. is out to kill him.""

supposedly he lied because on his show he said he never spoke about assasination, although he did use that phrase on the show. Miraculously the NyTimes confirms what robertson said: "Mr. Robertson went on at length about Mr. Chávez, suggesting that "covert operatives" could "do the job and then get it over with."

I don't agree with robertson but you can't say he lied about it when he came out and apologized.

Jim. Listen to the tape on the link that Spocko provides. All the various excuses and disclaimers are the cloud of smoke thrown up to confuse, and frankly, he got his message out even though he has now apologized.

Listen to the tape.

It seems that if one apologizes, either before or after, that any vile drivel is now acceptable. Even knowing that the crap you are about to spew is inflammatory or an untruth (or at the very least intentionally misleading) is apparently OK-- as long as you very conspicuously apologize for (or claim misunderstanding of) it.
Herr Robertson's backpedaling and qualifying are as worthy of apology as any of the other gobs of hateful garbage that come out of his mouth every day.

Thanks Rasta. The man is NUTS!
I just read some quotes from this guy. Why does anyone follow him?

I can understand the TV people talking to him, he says outragous things and that makes good TV. But does he really have a base of people who believe in what he says? I'm astonished. Well actually not totally astonished, people can believe a lot of dumb, cruel things. Especially if it makes them feel like a big man.
