I clipped this out last year but didn't post it. I thought maybe next year it won't hit quite as hard.

Oh and by the way, to me supporting the troops starts with not putting them in harms way unless it is absolutely necessary and making sure they have a plan that isn't based on wishful thinking.

To the people who excuse misuse of the military by saying,"Well, when they signed up they asked for it" my reply (rather than hitting them) is to insist that they signed up to fight when needed for an obvious cause. The US is in danger, we have been attacked by a nation, we are being invaded.
Why ARE we in Iraq, anyway? Bush keeps changing the reason.

I thought about your post off and on all day. I'm reminded of something my father said many years ago about M*A*S*H. He'd never watched it because "I've been to several M.A.S.H. units [in Vietnam] and I can't imagine anything funny happening there." In the early '90s he finally gave it a look and apparently it had been long enough because he liked it (most of the writing is quite good, though Alda is Lazenby to Donald Sutherland's Connery).
I'm not sure how that relates to your post, but it's what it made me think of.

Pfft. Everyone knows that what the troops really want is to be productive and useful, fighting an unnecessary war with everybody back home cheering for them. If you're not cheering for them, you're not supporting them.
Oh, and armor is for sissies, and it's insulting to suggest that the troops need it.

Coho: The writing on M*A*S*H was always interesting. I saw a behind the scenes show about the writing which was facinating. One of those shows that really understood the tragdy of war and a "we can either laugh or cry" attitudes. It was a VERY anti-war show.
Eli: "armor is for sissies"? Well I have a few tank commander friends who would like to have a little chat with you.
Spocko, I think you need to get some more sleep. Poor Eli wasn't being serious.
